Targeting People Based On Profession Assumption

This got me thinking the other day as I was simply capturing some videos of the cherry blossoms in the area and randomly this person asks me if I could help her capture a video for her own gig. This just simply involved taking a quick video of her at a spot similar to how many people ask strangers to take a photo of them with their camera. During this time I was making suggestions on how she could make the shot look better and at the end she was thankful.

I asked her how she would have even gotten these shots since it didn’t seem like she had a lot of equipment like a tripod. Apparently since she travels a lot and simply wants quick photos and videos she mentioned how she often looks for people who appear to carry equipment that is geared towards someone who captures videos and photos for say professional work or as a content creator online. According to her she never had issues when asking people like these because if they do happen to say work in that realm you are likely to get someone who would be glad to help.

It’s like profiling people in real time to find a qualified candidate of sort. Who’s to argue as It seems like it is working for her. Although it does make you think how there are so many people who make a snap judgement on people based solely on visual cues which goes back to a topic I mentioned many times on how you unfortunately need to look the part many times to prevent people from making snap judgements on you in a negative way that can cost you opportunities.

Ina perfect world everyone would just be judged based on skills as an example. But perception is integral many times just to get a chance at an opportunity.
