Recently there has been a sale for bags of pistachio nuts at the supermarket for $3 per 225 gram bag which isn’t too bad as they are usually more than double the price. As expected, they have been selling out pretty fast. Funny enough, the smaller bags at only 200 grams were selling for almost $7 since it was the other one that was on sale. So with stores sold out of this one brand it seemed like the supermarket used this opportunity to sell their own brand of pistachio nuts for the same price.
By the looks of it, people still bought it and it must have made them more profit since it was their own versus having to buy and resell another company’s products. That’s a very good idea in regards to finding substitutes where a lot of people went to the store with the intent to buy and by offering a similar alternative, they can still make some profit.
It does make me wonder if that was planned as I know usually for many sales in supermarkets businesses usually reduce the price of their own no-name branded items to be even cheaper than the name brand items to sway people to get theirs instead.
