Recently I decided to end a business relationship wit a company where I just didn’t feel it was a good fit anymore and so we went through all the procedures while giving time to make the exit smooth. The one thing that came up from other people was how they hope the company won’t all of a sudden act unprofessional in the same vein of when a disgruntled employee quits a job you often heard stories of people doing it in a way where they burn bridges.
In this case, I didn’t see any immediate concerns but there was one scenario where they seemed to have just rushed a job without the usual care and attention which led me to believe they were doing this out of spite knowing that the business relationship would end soon. I always wonder why people do that as you never know in business when people will cross paths again. Especially in these scenarios where people talk to each other all the time in a everyone knows each other scenario.
You kind of learn this early on too with the stereotypical examples on how people who bullied or mistreated say the unpopular person at school ends up making it big. So that wasn’t smart to burn bridges huh? Unless two parties exited in extremely bad terms such as someone literally murdering the other person’s loved one, you should try to keep things professional to the end.
