Who would have thought people would be fighting at a Starbucks over some merchandise that is more akin to people trying to grab the hottest item at a toy store before it is sold out? Well, apparently Starbucks released this bear shape cup that people could buy dubbed as the “Bearista Cold Cup” and maybe they underestimated the demand as a lot of people were literally lining up before the store opened to get it. You’d think it was a new consumer electronics launch. Apparently, it was a disaster as a lot of stores received very little inventory such as literally one or two cups.
With that, arguments occurred at stores and people on social media are expressing their displeasure. It does make you think if this is a good problem to have on one end as it shows you have something that people really want and are this passionate about it. On the other hand, a lot can view this as simply the company potentially doing it intentionally to the point of damaging consumer trust.
These aren’t cheap cups either as apparently, they are about $43.95 Canadian per cup. So, maybe that was the reason stores were shipped so little as they aren’t exactly designed to sell merchandise versus coffee first. I would think the easiest solution would have been to offer a way for people to buy it online and having a dedicated department for it. Because it sounds like a money maker for them too.
