Today while walking it actually started to rain in very specific parts of the city where a lot of people were unprepared. Imagine walking in a shirt as the weather was partly sunny and then five blocks down all of sudden it starts pouring rain. With this a lot of people were actually trying to find cover or stores to purchase an umbrella. While there are technically a lot of stores that actually sell umbrellas, the interesting thing here is since it was an on the whim purchase people were simply searching for places to buy it online where the only real places that popped up were companies that had the word umbrella in it.
Some of them were actually not even stores but rather restaurants. But it demonstrated how nowadays just having the product in your name can immediately put you in front over others which can be great if you are a smaller business or specialty shop. This is versus naming the business to something that may have more sentimental value that requires you to really create some brand awareness.
Which actually does make me wonder if that is a viable business strategy for a startup where you can use that naming strategy intentionally to grow initially and then change it to the name you really wanted to have once your business is established with a loyal customer base. Of course, it probably costs a lot of money to rebrand everything afterwards if you do go that route. But for many they don’t even get past the start up years due to the lack of awareness and this could be a way to do it.
