For whatever reason today it has been extremely windy to the point where there are warnings everywhere. Fortunately, it only started to get extremely bad in the evening when most of my outdoor activities have been completed. As I got home it wasn’t bad as it felt the same working with the computer indoors. It did make me think though where if it did come earlier when I had to be outside, I would have not been adequately equipped to handle the situation.
That then makes me think of all the other business such as food cart vendors where they are usually okay for things like the rain. But heavy winds isn’t something a lot of the vendors seem adapted for with items such as physical signs flying off from their carts. It makes you think there do you actually prepare for all weather situations or would you simply call it a day as these types of incidents aren’t a frequent occurrence?
In some ways it may make financial sense for smaller businesses like those to just take the day off or close early. For myself it would have been a matter of investing in some better equipment such as if there is such an umbrella that can withstand that level of wind. As well though, would it make sense to invest in an expensive laptop in case I get stuck and can’t go home to a desktop computer? That would be a different question on whether the investment for hat would be worth it overall.
