Just recently, I saw this ad that the province was going to introduce some kind of initiative where self employed people who are out of work can also get a welfare/financial aid of sort. It’s almost like a regular 9-5 worker who got laid off where they can then apply for financial aid. I was just thinking, can you really manage this effectively for the self employed? Technically you can say that your business is like say…writing articles online and getting paid for it. Hence, I can only see it being abused very easily.
Many times I think it is better to not have these types of cushions as it forces you to evaluate your strategies and forcing yourself to do something that works. Otherwise in a self employed situation one could be inclined to just keep doing what they are doing while getting a monthly government cheque of sort.
