There were a bunch of news reports about this a little over a month ago where there is apparently a shortage of rice around the world and as a result the prices would naturally go up. I didn’t really see too much of an effect here until recently.
I was amazed as I saw large bags of rice today that would normally sell for about $15 was now selling for $45. That’s almost like a price hike for some kind of newly released electronic gizmo that is in limited supply. Of course, there is a good chance where that store was price gouging a little bit too.
That makes me wonder if people will start to change their meal routines for the pure sake of budgeting. One thing I haven’t noticed yet are restaurants where I would think that prices for any dishes consisting with rice would go up as well. Could you imagine paying more for a plain bowl of rice compared to say a peace of steak? Wouldn’t that be something if it actually went that far.
