While attending a brief workshop today this was a funny example I thought of using simple rooms to act like a professional studio of sort. This topic was for voice actors and how it is important to have a very quiet room whenever you are doing your recording. For example, that means padding up your walls to eliminate noise which can be expensive for those starting out. But then another example was given on how you could actually just use your closet space as a sound booth of sort which works perfectly. I don’t think many people would have thought of that actually.
It’s a great example I thought on how we usually have what we need to get the job done. However, because these rooms as an example were designed to be used in a specific way we tend to overlook whether or not we can repurpose them for our own unique needs. Especially if you are on a tight budget in this case, one could have spent so much money trying to sound proof their entire room in general versus just using the closet for the time being and investing in a high-quality microphone instead.
I always wonder why we never had some kind of course like these in school where they encourage you to think outside the box or find ways to re-purpose existing products to help fulfill another task. Would be a usually exercise for budget conscious individuals too.
