Reading From Official Sources To Verify

There was a lot of news again about tariffs being placed on Canada from the US where apparently the rate will be 35% which is pretty high. That meant hearing a ton of conversations around my area of people worrying that prices will go up for all items here. That actually didn’t make sense as it should mean higher prices for people in the US. As well, even though all the headlines stated 35% on Canadian goods there are apparently emptions when you read into it such as CUSMA-compliant goods being exempt from it.

While it’s convenient to read the news to try and make informed decisions, I find nowadays a lot of them are simply focused in generating say clicks to the point where the focus is on key buzzwords to generate viewership versus the whole story. That means you will have to do the work and look into things yourself as well where the news will act more as a notification.

This will probably get worst with the use of AI too as people will simply rely on what is outputted by an AI bot without actually verifying themselves. This has been getting people in trouble such as lawyers using AI that generated fake court cases. No escaping the requirement to manually review things yourself.
