Reacting To Disliked Business Figures Passing Away

There was a lot of news in recent days that the former CEO of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki, passed away after a battle with cancer. While normally in those scenarios people would offer condolences, there were so many message from people who were still bringing up the fact that she made decisions that affected their business life negatively such as suppressing certain people’s work on the platform. With that in mind, they didn’t feel sorry.

That made me think of the topic on how if you and someone else had a deep rivalry business wise where during the time the person would probably embrace the fact that you may potentially be put out of business by them, would you then treat their passing like here the same because they would have had no sympathy if you went bankrupt? This is different than say playing a sport against a rival team because there everyone is still making a living as it’s mostly about one’s pride and ego if they win. Versus in business, it’s usually about one’s livelihood.

I would imagine in that sense for many it’s no different than treating someone like a murderer who was willing to harm others for their own benefit. No one size fits all answer I suppose?
