Every business is usually trying to think of some creative way to gain massive attention in order to generate brand awareness as people often say no publicity is bad publicity. While looking professional or being funny is usually the most common direction to achieve this in some marketing ad, it seems like rage baiting is the trend recently to get people to naturally talk about your company or products.
What is rage baiting? It’s essentially doing something intentionally bad where you are hoping people will criticize you while going out of their way to share your blunder to the world. For example, you could create a video where you are intentionally cleaning your electronic items by washing it with soap and water as if it is your dishes and this will get everyone riled up to shame you for it. But that’s the point as it gets people to take action in spreading your work.
It’s gotten to a point where this is actually more profitable than trying to look polished and professional as in the end once a company gets all the traction and attention they can just say “just kidding”. I even see people faking public mishaps to get attention in these ways. Would you ever dare to deceive your customers like this as if it was one big April fools joke if you knew it would get you global attention?
