It seems like the company Quaker is recalling a bunch of its products due to a possible salmonella contamination. As stated on the health Canada page, “Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.” It is a pretty lengthy list of products too as they sell a variety of cereal and bars all over Canada. It does make you wonder how this even happened for these types of items.
But one conversation that I heard was how because of this incident a lot of people will forever be paranoid about buying their products in the future. Usually people would be able to overlook that for future products such as how you often hear recalls for meat products an example. People are usually okay to buy future batches that are supposed to be good.
Again, could it be that it’s just odd for these types of items to have salmonella? Another reason for this I was thinking is apparently the company was also offering people refunds but the process was not very consumer friendly per se such as requiring people to send proof of purchase when most people wouldn’t have the receipt after say a few days. As well, they were offering credit and not cash from what I heard. All this probably factored in to people viewing this as an extremely negative experience while not having much trust and faith in the company.
At times like these usually companies would have a lot of promotions after to try and win back consumer confidence and market share. Because oddly enough, despite health concerns a good deal is enough to win a lot of people back.
