Poor Shopping Habits or Inflation To Blame

For a lot of grocery items people have been complaining that prices are reaching to the point where it’s becoming unaffordable and people want change. Now whether or not it’s companies price fixing to make more profits or a genuine inflation issue is one topic. But seeing this video made me wonder if some people are blaming convenience shopping for not being able to afford necessities. In this case a person was complaining how this small bag on instant rice was over $5. That’s crazy of course from a financial point of view. But my first reaction was even without inflation those things are always expensive and not worth I think for the sheer convenience.

As an example, just the other day I showed how walking around the supermarket there was 18.1 kg of rice on sale for $29.88. Why in the world would you not get that in both a good and bad financial time? The only drawback I can see is it takes a little longer to prepare. But even one bag of this should last you a very long time. It’ similar to people who say a can of beans is all they can afford where for the same price you can by the dry ones that you have to boil yourself for so much less.

I agree with the sentiment that food prices should be affordable. But this is not a good example for people to use in order to push that point considering again you are paying for the convenience and marketing mostly for those quick meal products.
