I was wondering what this was about as I was seeing in various social media feeds on a personality named Pokimane that appeared to be doing an auction of sort where the winner would get to have a gaming session with her as she is known to be a top video game streamer. This is for charity so you can expect people to bid fairly high knowing it’s for a good cause. But the prices were going so high to the point people were questioning about the value one places on say celebrity interaction. In this case, it currently went up to $500,000.
I can’t remember too many times where charity auctions reached to this level. I suppose it’s a good thing for the charity. Again though, it created so much conversation about the value of an Internet personality where some view it as extremely bad for people to value another so much for a little bit of their time while others see it as a case study of sort on why it can be important for a business to align with these types of public figures.
There are plenty of people who charge extremely high fees just for speaking engagements as an example which in theory would be virtually the same. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that the person streams videos of her playing video games that gets more of an emotional reaction of it as on a surface level I know many people would view that as a thing that anyone can do per se. Either way, at this day and age you can’t really deny that it is the way it is in terms of people highly valuing the time of very famous people.
