Overlooking Copyright Issues With Merchandising Businesses

Unless you are sleeping under a rock I’m sire everyone has heard about the Trump shooting incident in the US and the pictures that were taken which is getting a lot of attention. Most notably, the one where after a bullet hit his right ear he stood back up with secret service workers surrounding him as he lift up his fist saying “fight fight” over and over. Because of that picture so many people are rushing to place it on T-shirts to sell for money an example.

It’s a common way nowadays for people to make income from their online work where they sell merchandise to make money versus relying on ads. But this was weird I was thinking how they don’t own the rights to the photo taken and if the photographer ever really wanted to he could probably take legal action against people who use his photo for profit in that way. Of course, that will unlikely happen unless it’s a large business doing so. But it’s surprising to see how many people think it’s legally okay. It’s kind of the same mentally of people downloading famous music tracks and passing it online where technically one isn’t supposed to do that for music that requires licensing. Or worst, putting copyrighted music into one’s work and making a profit out of it.

I do suppose for a lot of smaller people they feel they are too small to ever get on the radar. But it’s definitely not legal per se if the thought is it’s perfectly legal to do so.
