When people have a lot of money they usually invest it in some kind of land as it’s a pretty safe investment overall as the value usually tends to increase. But this was interesting as today there were a lot of tsunami warnings around the pacific coast. Hawaii was one of them and as you can imagine people were scrambling to get out of the area. What was interesting is that the claim was Oprah Winfrey apparently owns a lot of private land with a private road.
With that private road path, one could actually get to the other side of the island quickly versus having to circle the area. But because it is privately owned it was originally closed off for people to use it. After much pressure it seems someone decided to open up the road. I guess this is one example where using your money to buy up so much space in these regards means you have more social responsibility as well. Especially when people’s lives are at risk.
Even if this is true or not, imagine if it was other stuff as well such as buying out literally an entire area that produces fresh water and you refuse to let people go there when there is a need for it. You could argue they have no obligation to help anyone since it is private property, but then people would argue this is an example on how wealthy people take advantage of the working class.
Something to think about if you feel you can just buy everything with your wealth to be used as just luxury when clearly people could use it in an important way.
