Messaging Directly or Publicly In Pitching A Service

Usually when people mass e-mail others about their products and services there is a good chance it will be ignored unless people have some kind of relationship with the person or company. So usually in those cases it’s better to actually meet people first where after you built a little rapport they will likely be more open to hearing what you are all about it. But what got me thinking is how there was a person who ran a business where they thought I would be the ideal customer for them. Instead of messaging me directly, they posted a message publicly where normally it’s just meant for general comments about my work.

I was thinking in my mind, they could have just contacted me directly first as I would have been open to hearing what they had to say. It’s almost like people convince themselves that they will always be ignored when in reality if you have something useful to share that benefits everyone then most people are usually open to hear it. Especially if it is personalized for the person. It’s almost no different than trying to establish say a sponsorship agreement. Both sides are usually constantly looking for the right opportunities and it’s weird when people instead post publicly about their offering.

Are people simply afraid of rejection?
