Making Everything Subscription Despite Backlash

I personally find it a little anti consumer where a lot of companies these days are implementing subscription fees for their products which means you never truly own it versus renting it. This is worst for software applications as in the past you would buy it once and use it forever. If you ever want to upgrade to a more recent version with better features, you would then buy that. But a lot of companies are simply making their products subscription based as it probably generates a lot more money and creates an income stream.

But what was interesting is how recently there was news that Tesla would be forcing people to pay for a monthly subscription in the future to use the car’s automated driving features and that it will only get mor expensive in the future as the tech advances. This made people upset of course as people wanted the option to just outright buy the features. One of the arguments is paying say $10,000 outright for the feature would take years for it to actually be cheaper than say $99 a month. But it’s more about how like in the other examples no one truly owns say the products if this keeps going.

I guess you can’t blame companies wanting to maximize profits. I suppose this is an example why competition is good as I’m sure there will be companies that refuse to go the subscription route.
