Living Off A Doomsday Kit For A Non-Emergency

This was kind of odd as recently there were a lot of posts online on how businesses like Costco were selling these emergency food kits of sort called ReadyWise 5,400 Serving Ultimate Variety Emergency Food Pallet. Apparently its $2,999.99 that has freeze-dried entrees, breakfasts, drink, and more. They say this will last you over a year too. The crazy thing was some people were saying they were thinking of getting this more as a way to save money in having to shop for food for the whole year. What a bad idea in my opinion.

For one, at that price you can definitely but a lot of fresh and healthy food for a single person. If anything, I would say you may be potentially lessening your lifespan but eating just emergency food kit all year long. That’s US dollars too where it’s almost like a dining out frequently budget here and you are not exactly getting five-star meals.

This is not the way to be frugal in my opinion as you should be trying to get the best you can for your money versus the mentality of just getting whatever seems cheaper without factoring in say the negative such as having a less nutritious meal. Even if you can get say a year’s supply of candy bars that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to only eat that as your survival food. It’s not so much “don’t be cheap” versus “don’t be stupid” I would be inclined to say when it comes to spending in these cases.
