Today a person asked me if I was interested in doing a job which seemed kind of demanding where I was expecting a specific level of pay based on what other people have offered me in the past. To my surprise he was saying that no one ever paid that rate for what he was asking as in the business it would be considered as a regular type of work. I then gave him examples of other companies that did indeed pay those rates and his answer was interesting as he just said those weren’t his projects.
It makes you think as many times people d use that phrase on how it is an industry standard to justify some kind of rate. While that can be true I think you have to remember that doesn’t mean it’s a law or anything like that. So if you believe you should be getting a different rate than what the person is saying then don’t be afraid to say so. Or at the same time if you think someone is trying to charge too much just on that point alone feel free to judge it based purely on what they offer instead.
At the end of the day everyone pretty much has the freedom in these cases to price things to what they feel benefits them the most for what they offer.
