Ignoring The Top Performers or Challenging Them

This got me thinking as recently a family member was using one of those walking apps where people can create groups to help motivate each other to walk more. I was asked to join and so I did for fun. I naturally walk a lot each day for about 20,000 steps or more and apparently that is well beyond the average. I don’t usually drive a vehicle and walk as much as possible so that is a factor. But with this it seemed like a lot of people had the mentality of they will never catch up so they will just try and beat others closer to their count whereas there were some that used it a motivation to try and walk as much as I did.

It’s interesting to think about even from a business point of view as some people suggest you should never try and compete directly with those that clearly have a massive business already as you may be setting yourself up for failure. That has some truth to it of course as you should primarily focus on what you need for your goals. At the same time, I think it’s better to at least have some ambition to compete with whomever you feel is say the leader of sort in the field. It helps to push you to be the best versus just being content with where you are at.

People often need to innovate as an example to keep pushing ahead and even with exercise you have to challenge yourself and push yourself harder at times to really make some progress.
