This headline caught my attention as there was an area here in Canada where the government is willing to give people free land as long as they are willing to build a house worth $125,000. Of course, the intention is to try and attract new residents to an otherwise unpopulated area. Would you be inclined to move to an area for such an offer?
Some of the comments were interesting such as how many believe you would be unable to survive as there are probably no jobs in the area where you pretty much have to create your own work. When you think about it though, it’s a completely different type of lifestyle where you probably won’t have restaurants and shopping malls to entice you to spend on things you don’t need or make you spend more than you earn. You would probably need to be your own farmer to a certain extent as an example.
To me personally, this sounds more like a retirement option. That’s just based on personal preference of course. For others it is probably a very good offer. Even around here there are people who move away from the big cities and live in tiny houses where people find they all of sudden don’t need much money to survive. It might actually be good for a young tech person too who can run a business online. Again, it does come down to lifestyle choice. Would you take such an option to make finance less of a factor your life?
