Having Sales On Sensitive Holidays

I was thinking as tomorrow is Remembrance Day here and there actually happens to be all these advertisements for a big annual sales day on Ali Express which is unrelated of course. But it is kind of odd for people to be talking about a huge sales event on a day that is meant to remember those who have fought in the war for our freedom. Granted again it is a company in China, but it makes you think if you should try and avoid sales that overlap days like these.

For example, imagine if you were in the US and you started to advertise some big retail celebration on September the 11th which is known to be a tragic day in the US. It might be better to postpone or change your celebration day. Or at minimum, if it’s just a coincidental date that matches the time of say your business opening then perhaps you should try and acknowledge the day in general as well.

The Internet of course makes it more interesting as every company is operating in different countries that don’t exactly share the same history and values. But it’s an interesting factor to consider.
