Imagine this where someone contacts you with a job offer as it sounded like something very standard and you would be compensation based on industry standard rates. So for the most part there is nothing fundamentally wrong with it. But apparently a lot of people were turning it down because the job isn’t as glamorous per se say as many felt they are above just standard work. I know it’s crazy for people starting out as one would welcome every opportunity that comes by. However, for more established people maintaining an image of sort can be important to maintain branding value per se.
With that said, it’s surprising when I see people starting out reject these offers as you need to start building reputation which can be more important than the glamour per se. Especially in a situation where you are technically getting the industry standard rate versus say some lowball offer. We have to start somewhere, right?
If anything, you never know if that one opportunity will lead to even bigger things as people may remember you and hire you for even bigger projects. That’s happened plenty of times for me. It’s almost like handing your competition business to grow passed you in many ways too.
