Today my dad invited me to go out for dinner where since he is in retirement mode he often wants to try various restaurants. So when it comes to ordering food he doesn’t care too much about cost as long as it isn’t ridiculous. The restaurant we ended up going to had some specials where the food was cheaper as a result of being there at an early time before the major dinner rush. So we ordered some extra items just to try out.
I actually don’t usually order things like side or starter dishes as they seem so expensive. There was this one item that was like a lobster casaba where you got four pieces. They were like virtually the size of a cracker with a tiny bit of lobster on it. That was six dollars too which seems kind of much. At the end of the meal the total bill was still on par though with what you would expect while dining out.
Afterwards we went to the supermarket to see if there were any deals. I guess you can see how I developed my habit of visiting the stores as a casual walk to see if there are deals to be found too huh? While walking we saw these canned sockeye salmon that are normally about $4.50 being sold for about $2.30. That is a very good price. We bought some of course. My first reaction was how you could spend six dollars at the restaurant for that tiny cracker sized item or essentially get almost three cans of sockeye salmon. Reminds me why it is so much better to prepare your own meals and how far your money can go if you are on a budget.
At the same time, maybe for people that want to develop that frugal habit paying visit to the supermarket after you spent money dining out may make you rethink it next time when you find so many other deals you could have gotten.
