This was surprising news in relations to that tragic event at the Lapu Lapu day festival in Vancouver and there was one family of victims where the step mom, dad and daughter were killed which meant their teenage boy was now parentless. Like for a lot of the other victims a GoFundme page was started to help cover the cost of things such as the funeral. The amount of support was enormous though as people around the world donated over half a million dollars by the looks of it.
So while that should mean financially the child will be taken care of and more, they decided to donate a large portion of the fund to charity and the other victims. The reason was straight forward as it was expressed this crowdfunding was never meant as a way to say make the family money versus simply being a way to cover the unexpected costs of this incident. So with that, they will keep at least $200,000 by the sounds of it where the funds are going to explicitly be for the child and the rest donated back.
Very heartwarming during these times. Reminds you how sometimes it can be the right thing to do when you are given more than needed as someone else can be greatly impacted by your generous deeds.
