Getting Something Permanent You May Use or Temporary That Is Entertaining

In trying to decide what to use that free $100 in app credit for that I talked about yesterday apparently there are some app where you can use this credit to pay for a lifetime membership which essentially gives you a product to use forever. This is versus spending it on something like game where once the credits are up then it’s gone as the hope is it provided you with entertainment that was worth the value. This case was interesting as it was either spend it on entertainment or use it on an app that I may use in the future but not. For example, travel related apps that help you with bookings.

On a surface level it would usually always be better to get something that has long term value where if in the future you do end up needing it then you just saved a lot of money. Or if it somehow has value still then you may be able to say potentially give it to someone else in exchange for something else. But that is a risk too of course as you could just end up never using it. So, would it be better just to spend it on something you know you will have fun with like credits for a video game?

I was actually thinking too where another option would be to simply sell the credit to someone else who was going to spend that much anyways on say a game and give them a discount for it where in the end they are saving money and I can get money that is usable anywhere. If I only had the two options though I may lean more towards getting a permanent item.
