Fake Insider Leaks As Controlled Company Promotions

There are so many times where leaks of highly anticipated items get released on the Internet and people assume it’s some rogue employee that sold information for money which isn’t an uncommon scenario. However, many times companies do this on purpose to generate hype. This got me thinking as recently there were some new cameras released by the company Panasonic which appears to be generating a lot of positive reviews and hence it should make a lot of people want to buy it and tie their money down to that company.

However, a few short days later it seems like magically people got full spec leaks of an upcoming Sony camera as an example which should be a competitor to the Panasonic one. Like there, I wouldn’t doubt that this was a controlled leak of sort to hopefully put doubt into people’s purchasing decision and to potentially hold off. For the most part, it probably works too as who wants to spend thousands on an item if something that may be better is just around the corner?

I guess as the consumer it can be good to get product information early. But it’s interesting to think of as a business to actually do this kind of stuff on purpose as the secretive nature of it will likely help it to go viral without the need to spend huge marketing dollars too.
