Today I saw a sale for a software item where the company was advertising that you can buy it for only 2 cents. Normally it retails for about $40. I was interested in the response it would get versus simply making the item free. For the most part it did seem to generate more than a standard buzz based solely on the notion that it seems so unusual. At the same time, they make a little bit of money on it.
Kind of funny how silly little twists like that can generate more buzz and awareness for a business huh? Makes me wonder what would happen if you have like a “one and a half cent sale.” I have seen this strategy a few times in different ways too which makes me think that it must work very well.
