Usually it’s either working as an employee or starting business in regards to making a choice on how to earn a living. But what got me thinking recently is a lot of the people I know always seem to have a small side business of sort on top of their main line of work. For example, someone working a traditional 9-5 office job could also be selling items online as a side business. Or, you can have an actual business owner do say public speaking for a fee as a side gig. It makes you wonder, is this not the ideal way to approach your income generating activities in life?
Almost all the successful people do this. You may say you should always just focus on one job. But I guess a great example would be a sports athlete. Of course they are focused on being the best they can be at the sport while earning money for being a player on the team. But even in that example a really good player would often have side opportunities such as being sponsored by companies to promote products or even launching their own products to sell.
Is there a reason why a person with a traditional job can’t work a side business as well in the same manner? I know some people who literally just sell pictures they take as stock photo as an example on the side and make some decent money with that. It’s not something we are encouraged to do early on as the perception is starting a side business of sort would require equal dedication. But that is far from the truth with how many things you can do. You never know as your side business may end up going so big that it will actually replace your main line of work income.
