DJI Drone Ban And Business Dependency

There has been a lot of news on how the world’s largest consumer drone manufacturer called DJI may potentially be banned from selling its products in the US due to security concerns of its connections with the Chinese Communist Party. While that has technically already happened with companies like Huawei, DJI apparently sent a notice online about this in hopes to get its customers to challenge this law.

But one argument they made was how banning their products would mean business owners will be forced to close shop as they are dependent on DJI drones. That got me thinking, is it wise for any business to be 100% dependent on one company’s products to the point where you must close your doors if they ever go out of business for some reason?

I think that’s an example why in business you can’t be like one of those loyalist fans online that bash every competitor in order to validate your own purchases because you just never know how fast things can change. You need to be prepared to potentially change up your system if needed. Sure there are certain companies that make the best solution for your needs, but you still need to be prepared to use a different company’s product in the event stuff like this happens too.
