I know in recent times AI is a big thing where companies need a lot of resources for their bots to learn from ranging from written work to visual mediums. This has resulted in copyright lawsuits thus far as well since the whole issue is still relatively new. To my surprise, I was approached by a company recently that pitched the idea of using my library of work solely for the purpose of training AI with a compensator estimate of five to six figures.
Sounds like a crazy deal right? You still own the rights to your work, get paid for not doing anything extra and the companies won’t ever use your work like stock footage site. That’s the thing to think about. While it sounds straight forward, theoretically what this means is that the AI could use your work to learn how to generate your exact work and then sell that. Because technically it’s not your work they are selling but rather AI generated work after.
That’s something to think about during these times as copyright and ownership protection seems to be a sticky area. You pretty need to read every contract carefully. AS they say, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
