This got me thinking as today a person I knew was interviewing potential new tenants where for the most part he has had the same people for years. It’s best to have long-term tenants in these cases as you never know what kind of crazy people could be staying on your property. What was surprising to me though was how apparently he only charged people about $500 a month which is crazy for the Vancouver area as you could usually expect to pay $1000 a month easily.
Granted it’s not like a penthouse suite with a stunning mountain view or anything like that. But this also showed me how often the best deals for rental prices in places like Vancouver are probably non advertised as a lot of the property owners in these cases aren’t looking to say make a living off rental income. So in this case it’s probably better to ask your friends and professional network if they have any leads versus just looking at random classified ads.
That can be true in many cases but we are inclined not to just ask people we know. Kind of odd huh? Especially nowadays with social media where one post can easily spread to everyone you know. This isn’t like physically phoning everyone you know as well where you may disturb them as people can read general messages at their own convenience. Don’t overlook the people in your own social circle that may have valuable leads and the same would go the other way around if they need help.
