There was this mini festival today where various people were contracted to do performances at various locations. On the official guides people were given showtimes and nor surprisingly crowds gathered in anticipation for a show. However, it seems for a lot of the performers they opted to drive through the downtown core to get to their designated spots and there happened to be a protest that blocked off a lot of the traffic. As a result, event sights were left without the main acts taking place.
I was thinking too, for where they were stuck they could have literally walked for about ten minutes to reach to the area they needed. Of course it’s not as simple as just ditching the vehicle, but planning to get to important events without the use of one as well is not very common I find even though these random situations often do come up where traveling on foot will be better.
Even if it was the use of public transit, in that case you could literally just hop off the bus for this particular situation. Or since you are going into a busy city area where traffic or even parking can cause you to be late something like a bicycle could be a great option too. I know some people who park a little further out of the busy area and then bike in. But I am surprised at how many people neglect to have any kind of alternative non car travel option.
