Assuming Everyone Has Modern Day Tech

This was interesting I thought as apparently my mom had an appointment at a medical office and they were sending text messages to her home phone number as a way to verify that she is still going to make the appointment. It apparently literally asks people to text back to confirm too. She is low tech and doesn’t even use a mobile phone. But my guess is the office assumes a lot of people just use say their smartphone nowadays as their home phone and by default they use this method.

It make you wonder as a service provider or business if you should just make the assumption that everyone is using modern day tech. It reminds me too how I have seen a lot of restaurants nowadays where they don’t even have a physical menu where to find what you want you literally need to scan a QR code and use the Internet to view it. I encountered that a couple of times when dining out with my parents and it makes me wonder in terms of expecting people like them to have the tool to do so.

Like for the medical office I think it is better to ask such as what method of contact they prefer to confirm appointments. There will be a time that old tech will need to be phased out of course. But until then it’s good to have choices if you cater to a wide variety of people.
