It’s kind of odd reading stories on how there are actually stores that focus on stocking up goods that are close to or have passed its best before date. Like in most stores, these products are usually heavily discounted as they need to get rid of them as people generally won’t buy expired items. However, these stores prefer it as they are able to sell the items for very cheap and a lot of consumers love the savings. You may think that is crazy, but many times products that pass its best before date doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a spoiled product full of mold as an example. It’s supposed to be more about freshness. For example, if something is eaten right away when it is made it should taste a lot better versus something that has been sitting in a wrapper for awhile.
Would you actually adjust your shopping habits to buy stiff like that? I personally don’t actively go looking for products that are expired past their best before date. I think at most sometimes I look at say the “ugly” fruits and vegetables sections as the discounts are enormous and it’s only the cosmetic look of the product that people find undesirable. Once you say cook it its all the same. I suppose one mindset I have is I actually treat say food purchases as if It was a fancy electronic in the sense of I want to invest in something that is the best for a good value. Many people treat food and necessities as the category to skimp on so that they can buy say an expensive phone.
It really should be the other way around or at least putting them all in equal grounds. It doesn’t hurt I would say to buy those past their best date products. But I think you should keep in mind that investing in good food you put in your body should be important too.
