Fascinating story this was where a lot of people read the news here on how Nova Scotia has decided to implement these strict laws in an effort to prevent wildfires which includes making it illegal for people to walk through the woods. Literally, just walk through the woods as a path or a hike will result in one being fined $25,000. It sounds so crazy where apparently a former Canadian military veteran is going to challenge it by going to court.
To do so, he documented himself going up to conservation officers and telling him how he was going to purposely go into the woods as he wants them to fine him. With that fine, his plan is to go to court to challenge this law on whether or not it is actually legally enforceable. I suppose there would be arguments such as any potential contradiction with Canadian laws such as rights and freedoms that one may have. For example, if there was a local law created to tax people of a certain ethnicity that wouldn’t be enforceable based on the laws today.
Court rulings for these kinds of cases have happened before where the regular person won over say the local city laws and so we will have to wait and see. Would you ever dare to do that as a business though as I can imagine the risk is a lot greater if one loses.
