Abandoning Your Consumer Level Customers For Enterprise Customers

Recently I was reading about this software called Topaz AI that a lot of people were using to upscale their videos and they had ones for photos as well where people can fix blurry images and more. Now one reason it got popular is because they had a buy it once and you have it for life model versus how so many companies are going into the subscription-based strategy. I guess in recent times the company decided to change course and move all their software to subscription base as well.

It seemed like it got really expensive too where some of them were in the ballpark of $60 a month which is no small change for many. People then commented how the company was essentially trying to sail off the regular consumer that helped them become who they are as now they want to focus on corporations that have disposable income in those ways as they just want something that works.

Makes you think, would you ever just abandon your base demographic once you are in a better position? Example, imagine creating like a McDonald’s restaurant where the idea is to have affordable food only to then change it up and price everything like a higher scale restaurant because you now want to attract more big business and celebrities. I don’t know if I would ever just abandon people that helped you to get to where you are in a business life. If anything, I would try to at least keep say the lower end as a different division if possible.
