As mentioned in a previous post I had this junk removal coupon from a company called 1-888-junk-van that was expiring and so I kind of just had to use it otherwise it is a waste(For the record, in total I paid about $15 for it). Therefore, I decided to get rid of some items and told family members that they can dump some stuff in it too as long as it stays under the two hundred and fifty pound weight as the charge per extra pound seemed expensive to me.

Now I knew one hundred percent that the four main items that I wanted removed were well under two hundred pounds. Sure enough, at first the representative was saying it was indeed under and so some family members requested some small items like pieces of wood to be removed. Then magically out of nowhere before the extra stuff gets loaded on the truck the guy says “It’s about 350 pounds now.” To me that was a huge red flag and needed clarification.

They had a scale on the truck so essentially it was their machine versus some good old common sense and manufacturer specifications for the items. There was definitely other people’s junk on it as well since we weren’t their first trip. I was interested in finding out what exactly the weight was for each item according to their scale. In general, there were four items where three of them were about fifty pounds each and another was about ten. So mathematically that is about one hundred and sixty pounds. I then asked so where did the other extra weight come from? Sure enough they seemed a bit dumbfounded at first.

Then one worker pointed at this item and said “Well this is definitely over one hundred pounds alone.” The funny thing was I was thinking “Was that item even ours?” in which I wanted to verify. As well, there was no way that item was say 190 pounds as example. The worker was then asking out loud where the sales guy was as they needed to get going. So I then started to walk back into the house and the sales guy walks past me. Apparently one person decided to just pay the guy like $26 based on what he said as they didn’t want any conflicts since it was their extra junk. Sure enough, off they went after.

That was definitely frustrating as in my view this transaction didn’t seem accurate and the price they paid kind of nullified my savings effort. Of course they were telling me not to worry as they paid for it and not me. However, to me it feels like they got ripped off in a sense. It made me wonder too why are people so afraid of challenging a bill if something seems wrong? Ultimately it’s your money and companies should be fully willing to explain how they came about with the figure that they did.

This incident today was a little irritating if I do say so myself.
