I think business wise it actually taught a lot more when the contestants weren’t already famous. Let’s see how this one goes. They started the intro talking about the economic crisis that occurred two years ago with the emphasis that the candidates are now actually unemployed or at a point where they are working at low paying jobs.

Kind of interesting as in the past it has usually been about choosing people that are currently successful. At the same time, it is kind of amazing to hear how some people were so wealthy yet they still lost it all. The teams were basically split up as a men versus women routine. The teams are as follows and had the following people:

Men – Team Octane

Alex
Anand
Clint
David
Gene
James
Steuart
Wade

Women – Team Fortitude

Brandy
Kelly
Liza
Mahsa
Nicole
Poppy
Stephanie
Tyana

The project manager for Octane was Gene and for Fortitude it was Nicole. The first task for the teams was to design and build an ultra modern workspace. The teams would be judged on factors such as originality, creativity and execution. Donald Trump himself would be the judge and decision maker on who would win the task.

Everyone had such depressing titles attached their names. Example, usually when one of the contestants talks for the camera you would see their name and their occupation. Example, business owner, sales manner, etc. In these season people had titles such as a struggling business owner or an unemployed attorney.

Team Octane decided to go with an open space green office type of theme whereas Fortitude went for something a little more traditional it seems. Just based on this episode it seems like for the men David is the most dramatic as he doesn’t seem too receptive about following direction at times. As well, he used to be fairly wealthy. But because of the recession he lost it all. This apparently cost him his marriage and he still has five kids to try and take care of.

For the women I guess Mahsa is going to be the one that heats up the kettle most of the time as you seems to be extremely aggressive in voicing her opinions to the point where you would tend to get irritated at a person. When it came to Gene’s leadership it seemed like he was fairly laid back at first which caused a lot of time wasting. For Nicole her style was to always ask people what they wanted to do as opposed to directly delegating people to do something.

Nicole and Tyana seemed to have this strange relationship from the start where it was like Nicole just wanted to avoid being around her even though Tyrana had a good design background for the task. However, eventually she was used. While the men also had their fair share of the drama, there was one segment where it showed David phoning into some kind of income assistance line which made him depressed as he mentioned that he has been doing this for a long time ever since he lost it all.

While of course that is a bad situation, I just found it a little strange that a person who doesn’t have any more money would be using what seemed to be a smartphone. It almost makes me wonder where how much of him being in a rut financially has to do with not being able to find work as oppose to still trying to buy items that he can’t really afford anymore. Same goes for many of the other candidates too.

During the review something interesting happened on the men’s side. In their workspace they had these rugs that weren’t secured on the floor. As a result, some of the camera crew slipped and fell. This was a major negative for them as comments were made about how this creates a liability. For the women the overall impression it seemed was that it was kind of boring. In the end, Trump mentioned that he disliked both team’s workplace. However, since he had to choose a winner he mentioned that the men’s space was a bit more modern and appealing to him and so they won.

During the deliberations of who was going to win it was interesting as everyone on Fortitude was attacking Nicole for being a bad leader and Mahsa went all out in blasting her even before the winners were announced. This created a bad taste in Trumps view it seems. Nicole chose Mahsa and Tyana to go with her as the potentials to be fired.

For the most part it came down to the fact that Nicole was the project manger and that the decisions were ultimately up to her. As well, it was just a little too overwhelming that every team member was saying bad things about her. As a result, Nicole was fired. Trump made an interesting comment at the end too when she left where he thought she was a great person and therefore he was going to contact her to work at one of his pageant considering she was a contestant in it before too.

Interesting twists so far though as the theme to the candidates has got me interested mainly because many of them were at the top before and now are at ground zero. I am interested too because for people that can’t find any work for that long maybe this show will demonstrate if it truly was because of factors like the recession or if it was mainly their attitudes.

It’s been awhile since they started to show a season with regular people.
