What a funny example I saw today of a business trying to save money. Essentially, they decided to save money by not offering a particular department some small perks such as free food and snacks. Basically, people could normally get a meal every six hours or so. Now in this case many of the workers were unionized and there are these rules on how they must be treated and compensated. Supplying a meal is one of them.<\/p>\n
However, today they budgeted to get rid of the workers within a certain time period so that they avoid having to give anyone it. Hence, they would save money. The work day ended up being longer though and so the production was forced to pay hundreds of dollars more to compensate as a penalty for not giving the workers a break. I guess you can think of it as an overtime penalty. It wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t cheap too as each individual had to get paid about an extra $200 for the day or so. By the businesses reaction you would think nothing is wrong as they just kept going.<\/p>\n
I just found it kind of amazing that one can be so focused in trying to save money in one aspect of the business where they would completely neglect another aspect of it as the overall expense would be greater. This is true when it comes to personal finance too where so many people would say find ways to cut back on like food costs when their entertainment bills get higher which they don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t care.
