This got me thinking today as I attended a seminar of sort where people who have been working in various fields were offering their time and advice to graduates as they prepare for the working lifestyle. The thing was, some people I felt gave advice that was only true for their time which makes you think how you need to ask a variety of people before jumping all in with potentially life altering decisions.<\/p>\n
For example, one person was saying how they essentially thought social media was a waste of time as all the big-time people got started through traditional means. Basically, doing jobs and then working their way up. However, nowadays not having a social media presence gives you a huge disadvantage where if there are people effectively using it to build a base of sort that means they have more opportunities and flexibility to grow their business. As well, other companies would likely rather work with those who have a proven presence of sort.<\/p>\n
Make no mistake, the people they were talking to have the resume that many could only dream of. But times have changed. It reminds me of this talk show that had hopeful wrestlers asking pro wrestlers what they need to do to get in the business. One wrestler named Bret Hart was actually honest as he mentioned his time was different and so he may not be the best to give advice based on how things are now.<\/p>\n
Soak up the knowledge from the veterans. But be smart enough to try and tailor the essence of what they are saying with how things really are currently.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
