Just recently I was told of multiple stories of such instances and it makes you wonder how is that even possible? For example, in one case it seemed like the scammer had public records of their actions which should cause alarm bells for anyone. But despite that somehow people still get entangled into their scam and lose in some cases millions of dollars.

I was trying to see if there was a common theme and the lessons one can learn. The only thing I was able to see was that in all cases the scammer got through people by relating with them personally to the point where one would have the mentality of “They are a lot like me. So, they have to be a good person” per se. For example, in one case apparently the person was talking about their ancestral heritage which happened to be the same as the victim where one would emotionally conclude they must be just like them.

In other cases it was as simple as the two sharing similar hobbies. Again, that made people assume in an emotionally bias manner that they must be a genuine person. You would think people who run say million-dollar businesses would know better. But at the time it’s just easy to overlook. It’s mind boggling again considering in these cases I heard anyways there was so much public information. I suppose another problem is many times when people get scammed they don’t say anything. Therefore, it’s easier to dismiss that information. However, if thousands of similar stories start popping up then there would be no where to hide.

That goes into another topic before of a person who I know got scammed and debated if they should do anything or simply just focus on their business since it would require a lot of time and energy. For myself, I don’t always have the time to do so, but I think the balance is I usually keep fairly good documentation of my encounters just in case it is needed. At the same time, learning the patterns of the types of people who may just want to use you for money.

One thing that is a common theme in the business world is how there always seems to be groups of people in various industries that keep scamming people where even if at one point they were exposed they somehow are able to keep doing it to others.
