A lot of news today on how Google has loss a lawsuit where the company Epic Games, which created the game Fortnite, complained that Google was forcing companies to use its Google Play Billing system that has a hefty 30% fee attached to it. As it turns out, through a jury trial Epic Games has won the lawsuit which makes everyone wonder what this means for the industry in general. A lot of comparisons with other companies such as when Microsoft had to go through antitrust lawsuits as well.<\/p>\n
I know a lot of game developers actually tried to sidestep the Google Play billing by encouraging people to buy directly from the developers instead. Apparently, another reason why this is huge is with this loss on Google and essentially having them being labelled as a monopoly of sort then any future cases against them in these types of categories will go against them in the sense of they will be viewed as the \u201coffender\u201d in the eye of a lot of judges.<\/p>\n
It will e fascinating to see how the company will change now as I can imagine the huge loss in revenue for them if this case essentially says that people can\u2019t be forced to use its billing system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
