A few months ago I experienced what was apparently a common issue with the Samsung Galaxy S20 series where the glass covering the camera lenses cracked. So at first I thought I would get the glass replaced which would be simple. However, in my initial visit the people at this Samsung Experience Store told me they don’t do partial repairs as they think they may need to replace the entire camera system instead. That’s weird, but I figured they are trying o be safe.

For whatever reason, they didn’t have the parts in stock and virtually two months later I finally get a text message from them asking if I wanted my phone repaired still. So, I agreed and scheduled a time. Upon arrival they basically expressed the same thing as before where they will probably have to replace the entire camera system. So, I signed all the documents to get the item repaired and I asked them when I should come back since that is my only phone and can’t be notified when it’s done. They told me to come back in about two and half hours.

When came back afterwards I thought everything would be done. To my surprise though, the employee told me nothing had been dine as they found an issue. The person claimed after doing a diagnosis apparently there is a tiny section of the phone screen where the color burned out. It is virtually unnoticeable. Because of this, he alleged that Samsung won’t allow him to repair the camera glass as apparently their policy is to not do partial repairs on a phone as they need to fix everything that they find a fault with.

That is hard to believe if that is true huh? I even asked does that mean if there is a tiny scratch then they would need to replace the entire section of the phone? He employee stuttered a bit but then said no as that was different. Or how about the battery where technically they degrade over time? Similarly, that wouldn’t require a replacement. Even his answer was odd as he mentioned he had no choice where I need to take it to Samsung directly if I have an issue with the policy.

When you think about it though, the employee was definitely wrong as well where he essentially confirmed with me that the repairs will commence and to come back at a certain time. That alone with no attempt to rectify the situation is pretty bad business practices in my opinion. But if this policy is true wouldn’t you consider this very anti consumer per se? That is a little puzzling how they could do that.

I am actually debating what I should do if anything to escalate it as I know the company has a lawsuit for this very same issue in the US. So maybe a wait and see would be wise. But that would mean having a cracked camera glass for the time being as well where court cases usually take forever to settle.

This has got to be one of the oddest things I have ever seen from a business perspective that seems very anti consumer.
