I was browsing through some of my supermarket offers recently through the PC Optimum reward points and I was surprised to see this offer where the company wanted people to install its new health app. While installing apps is nothing new for many companies such as businesses wanting to promote store orders through their mobile applications, I was kind of stunned that they offered people 10,000 points to do so.<\/p>\n

That is essentially the company telling people that they will pay them $10 to install the app. You would normally expect the reward to be a few cents to maybe two dollars at most. You usually need to spend about $50 to get these kind of deals. Which begs the question, is your personal health data really worth that much money to a business where they feel they can easily make back the investment?<\/p>\n

For example, let\u2019s pretend it is items such as your heart rate or how much you have walked in a day. Would you feel this data is very valuable in creating say customized offers where the person is highly likely to purchase?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
