I have seen these pop up a lot in recent times where for a lot of companies that normally offer a monthly or yearly fee for its services somehow are able to offer an option to have the service permanently. For example, I have seen this a lot before for items such as malware software programs where a monthly fee could be say $5 but if you want a lifetime contract you can pay about $300. That sounds like a great value. But you then have to wonder as the contract is really only good if the service remains effective and that the company actually stays in business.<\/p>\n
But you do see these in other industries such as domain registration. For what would normally be about say $10 to register a domain for a year you can pay some companies about $400 where they advertise that you will have the domain forever as they will keep renewing it for you. So theoretically if you know you will have the domain for a long time then after 40 years it\u2019s definitely cheaper. It makes me wonder though as again it depends if the business actually stays open for that long.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s just not a viable business to offer everyone lifetime service contracts like this I would imagine where initially you could see a huge spike in revenue but as the years go by it will probably start to hurt unless you immediately expand into other things to up sell. Imagine restaurants offering everyone cards for say $3000 which means you can forever dine in for free afterwards with any of the regular menu items.
