With more people wanting to take or start a digital business that means there is a demand for courses and instruction on how to get started. This can range from how to build a website to how to create and market videos. So recently I decided to check out what some of these free ones were like as you can never stop learning. Everyone has a different path that requires different tools and directions. There was this one I was watching where at first they advertised it as a free offering that was monumental I guess you could say as they are giving away their $1000 course for free in a sense.

While watching it though it became evident that this free workshop of sort was designed to up-sell their services for which they charge almost $2000 for. As well there were a ton of add-on options for the events that could tally up to $200 each person such as getting a VIP chatroom. The advice they were giving was pretty generic and bare bones too when you really break it down.

That seems to be a trend I noticed where a lot of online training companies are using free conferences as basically an infomercial where they lure you in with the free price tag and at the end of the day you need to pay money to really get any substance. To make it worse a lot of these things are actually pre-recorded where they give the illusion that it’s live. My personal thought is if you are about to invest thousands of dollars for someone to tell you how to start something online you may want to factor in if it’s wiser to invest that in any equipment you need and then actually do it.

The common example is if you had to pay a film school $15,000 for a 2 month course do you think that would be more effective than using that $15,000 to buy some very good gear and then learn by just starting to film stuff? Something to think about.
