I often thought it was so weird that people would often talk about the type of certifications they have received in an effort to demonstrate their knowledge or authority on a subject. When you think certification you often think of people who went through a two year program as an example which demonstrates that they have been thoroughly trained. But nowadays this could literally be someone who took a two day workshop as an example where it’s almost like simply attending a seminar. Obviously that is nowhere near the accomplishment of going through an actual thorough curriculum.

Although I did hear how many people have started issuing their own “certificates” for whoever paid and completed one of their courses. Reason being is that others would often write it in places such as their resume which acts like free advertisement for them. As well, people often get the impression that if you offer certification then you are somehow more qualified than everyone else.

That’s not always the case of course but I suppose that is true for the average person. That makes you wonder, would you start issuing certification in your business for the sake of image and exposure?
